2015 was a good year. A very good year in real estate. With that, I have had such privilege for which my heart is grateful on so many levels and it also gives me the opportunity to give back to the community that gives us so much. John and I try to support many worthwhile causes with both time and money whenever we are able and in 2016, I’m going one step further and will also give a portion of my income from every transaction to a very worthy organization in our community.
Trying to decide who that organization would be was one of the hardest decisions ever. We have so many incredible, worthy, effective, hardworking and needed agencies in the area – Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, Hospice Georgian Triangle, My Friend’s House, Breaking Down Barriers and many more. It was really hard because I have had a personal connection with almost all of them over the years in some capacity and all are struggling to fundraise the dollars they need to continue their good work. But I had to choose one and in the end I did.
Home Horizon is a transitional support program based in Collingwood and serving the wider region (including also Creemore · Meaford · Stayner · Thornbury · Wasaga Beach · Town of Blue Mountain) by working with homeless women and children through support, counselling and housing. As they say on their website,
Abuse, underemployment, serious illness and social isolation can often put a family in crisis with no place to go.
Home Horizon helps these vulnerable people re-establish their lives through a program of transitional housing and personal counselling. The agency rents modest housing units in well-maintained areas that have good access to schools, shopping, health care and community services. Each unit is well equipped, comfortably furnished and maintained by local churches. Clients are provided with temporary housing for up to one year and within their means, contribute to the cost of Home Horizon services. They also commit to participating in counselling and other programs specifically designed to meet their individual needs.
Home Horizon now has a decade of experience under their belts and the results have been excellent. Many once homeless families have moved on to owning homes. They have changed the course of many lives and children in particular are given a critical hand up when needed the most.
While every service is important and worthy, having a roof over one’s head is a basic and fundamental need. I believe anything we give should help to bring the world closer to the one we ideally want to live in and so, Home Horizon is a perfect fit for me.
Thank-you in advance to all of my 2016 clients for choosing me as their REALTOR® and rest assured, your choice will help to support Home Horizon.
