Thanks to Bill 8, the Public Sector and MPP Accountability and Transparency Act, 2014,
The Ontario Ombudsman can help Ontarians who are having issues or problems with the following 3 bodies:
- School Boards
The Ontario Ombudsman, who is an independent officer of the Ontario legislature, a watchdog and an impartial investigator, provides free, confidential services including complaint resolution, independent investigations, referrals, and recommendations to improve accountability, service and administration in government.
For example, when local mechanisms fall short of resolution, the Ontario Ombudsman may contact the municipality about whom a resident is complaining, for more information, and where necessary, an investigation may ensue, resulting in recommendations. Common municipal complaints are about customer service, staff or council conduct, conflict of interest concerns, services such as snow removal or garbage collection, utilities, and lack of accountability.
According to the Ombudsman Annual Report 2014-2015, “we do not replace existing complaint mechanisms, we ensure they work as they should.”
