AND THE WINNER IS…
Pantone’s Classic Blue
Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2020 is Classic Blue – an unassuming little colour, with hints of blue bells and night sky.
Seriously though, folks, Classic Blue is The Colour Of The Year for 2020, and you’ll notice it is already peeking at you from devices, eye makeup and dishware.
Pantone, founded in the 1950s as ‘the’ printing company, has chosen an annual colour of the year decided from trend-forecasting research, which is done by the Pantone Color Institute. The colour is chosen to reflect what is happening in the global culture at that moment in time.
Reflecting on the last time a blue hue was colour of the year 1999, (cerulean blue), VP of the Pantone Color Institute Laurie Pressman is quoted in TIME Magazine as saying: “From now and then , there’s the same feeling of trepidation about the world, which is why, based on what we saw happening in our global culture, we selected Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue, to be our colour of the year for 2020. ” She adds, “It’s a reassuring blue, full of calm and confidence. It builds connection.”
Pantone’s Veep also pointed out that she feels the colour depicts dependability, trustworthiness, credibility and constancy. Who knew that cotton swatch you hold up against your living room wall to decide on a new paint colour, could reflect so much more than a good idea for a feature wall? Gosh, it sounds like it’s just the tonic our tired old world needs right now. Today – the dining room wall…tomorrow, the world!
Plus… it looks like the sky at dusk, so how can it be anything but great? .
