THIS JUST IN…SECONDARY SUITES in TOWN OF COLLINGWOOD

A bylaw has been passed March 26, 2018, offering additional opportunities for allowing secondary suites in the town of Collingwood.

The proposed zoning by-law amendment pertains to residential lands within the town.  Now passed, Bylaw 2018-017’s purpose is to “modify and add provisions to the Town’s Zoning By-law, as amended, to implement secondary suite policies in accordance with the Town’s Official Plan, the Simcoe County Official Plan and various Provincial Planning Policy documents.

The effect of this bylaw is to allow additional opportunities and to revise or introduce standards related to secondary suites.

According to the bylaw, “accessory apartments are permitted within semi-detached units throughout the Town and second units, such as coach houses and garden suites, are permitted in detached buildings accessory to single detached dwelling units on larger lots within the older built-up portion of the Town (the Collingwood Intensification Area.)  Read the bylaw here.

For additional information, the public may visit the town’s Planning Services department above the library or call 705-445-1290 to speak to them.  Documents related to the bylaw are available for inspection at the Planning Department during working hours.
