Have you been to Osteria Vitto yet? Recently, John and I had the pleasure of enjoying a meal at this relatively new restaurant in Stayner. We’d heard a number of people rave about it and were curious to know why they had developed such a fast following.
Located in the location of the former FUD restaurant, Osteria Vitto is, as the name suggests, an Italian eatery located on the main street opposite the Royal Bank. Upon entering, we were greeted and seated by Bruno Cohen; one of the young owners who manages the front of house with ease. The atmosphere is immediately welcoming with dark tones, a casual ambiance and an open kitchen where you just feel quickly at home. We received a sincere welcome from our server Bri who, I have to say, provided one of the best serving experiences I’ve had in the area. She was genuine, caring and clearly determined to ensure we enjoyed every moment of our evening with them.
Italian food is really the ultimate comfort food and it did not disappoint. We started with a warm mixed bread basket to nibble on while I enjoyed an Italian Proscecco cocktail and John had a glass of red wine which is sold by the ounce. Isn’t that a great idea? The house wines are sold for $1.00 per ounce which allows you to customize and control the amount you would like to enjoy.
For appetizers, we shared a Caprese salad made with fresh mixed greens, basil, tomatoes, bocconcini and a white balsamic dressing and, Arancini which are deep fried, stuffed rice balls. This was followed by our pasta dishes which were made to perfection by owner and Chef, Adam Barone who was actually smiling away in the kitchen as he prepared the dishes. Regrettably, we were way to stuffed ourselves to enjoy a dessert from their tantalizing menu of treats.
Bri took me on a tour and showed me the upstairs party room which has a full bar and is suitable for private parties or overflow for up to 50 or 60 people. During out tour, she told me that she is also the Customer Care Co-ordinator of something like that and takes care of restaurant promotion and social media. She was clearly enthusiastic, competent and proud of the business her employers have created. She then introduced me to Bruno who explained that they opened in February of this year and have had exceeded their own expectations to date. Can’t say I’m surprised. We will certainly go back.
Prices were reasonable with dinner including drinks and appetizers running under $100.00 for the two of us with tip included. OV is open daily for lunch and dinner from 11:30 am to 10:00 p.m. except for being closed on Tuesdays. They offer nightly features and early bird dinners as well as a special Sunday brunch menu all of which you can view on their website. I can honestly say it was a perfect experience and is certainly worth the drive to Stayner.
