At any time of year, Hogg’s Falls is a beautiful and wild little paradise. Situated amid a forest preserve, here the Boyne River tips over the edge of the escarpment at the southern edge of the Beaver Valley.
While Hogg’s Falls is not nearly the largest waterfall in the area, it is one of the most peaceful and scenic. It was once home to a mill built by William Hogg in about 1870 until it burned in 1888. The foundation of the old mill is still visible about 50 meters upstream from the falls.
John and I enjoyed a beautiful fall walk on one of the trails and look forward to heading back with snowshoes in a few months. On our hike, we met folks along the trail who had hiked about 7 kms directly from nearby Eugenia Falls. You can also access the Bruce trail network from here.
Now I consider a hike a perfect excuse to eat so if you agree, head on over to the Flying Spatula in Flesherton for lunch or, the Flying Chestnut in Eugenia for dinner afterwards.
