In 1990, UNESCO recognized the Niagara Escarpment as a World Biosphere Reserve putting it in the company of the Everglades and the Galapagos Islands. From Niagara to Tobermory, the 725 km long escarpment is one of Canada’s most scenic land formations and offers a rich mosaic of forests, farms, recreation areas, scenic views, cliffs, streams, wetlands, rolling hills, waterfalls, mineral resources, wildlife habitats, historic sites, villages and towns. The area known as the Beaver Valley is really a steep-sided, 20 mile wedge in the escarpment that runs south from Meaford and the Blue Mountains to the villages of Kimberley and Eugenia. The area is known for its fine fishing and canoeing in the Beaver River, for the ski hills in Kimberley, for cycling, birding and of course, for the Bruce Trail. Take it from me; the autumn show of colours you’ll find driving down the Epping Side Road is so breathtaking that I’m sure it is unequalled anywhere in the Province.
