Monaco plans to start construction this summer on the six-storey building at the corner of Hume and Hurontario St in Collingwood’s downtown core. In a recent simcoe.com news article, the developer said that applications and fees have been paid for permits with construction is slated to begin in July.
I can’t personally say I’m thrilled with the news as I feel a six-storey building is utterly at odds with the Heritage District vibe and, it sets a precedent that doesn’t feel comfortable to me. Having said that, there is widespread support for this proceeding and that is not a surprise after 13 years of nothing happening on that corner.
The building will include 126 condo units and 28,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space. Occupancies are slated for 2021.
