In the realm of counting my blessings, I have to say I had a good year.  One of the very best things has been working with many people in ’08 who relocated and made the Collingwood area their new home.  I’ve been thinking about them having their first Christmas here and so, this post is for you.

If you are a last minute shopper, calm down because you can get everything you need right here in town.  I did it all in an afternoon.

First, I went to the Grapevine Cottage in the mall where I found some unique and reasonable priced gifts.  Then I headed downtown to visit The Garden’s Nest where Abbey wrapped the awesome and unusual gifts I found up for me like a pro.  Across the street, Rafters had some inexpensive items including stocking stuffers and well-priced items perfect for a few people on my list.  I wandered down the road to Crave where I got some old-fashioned treats such as Pez dispensers (a must in the kids stockings) and a chocolate truffle for me.  Speaking of chocolate, I couldn’t resist heading up to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory up at the Village for some of the world’s best peanut butter brittle and chocolate covered blueberries.  Yum!

Then, I headed down to Nottawa to the new Elephant Thoughts store where I got the BEST, and I mean the BEST stocking stuffers you could imagine.  This science based store is part of a registered charity that provides education to children around the world so your purchases do some good in the process.  You can buy things like photo albums made out of elephant poop, kits to make your own toothpaste, puzzles, brainteasers and gyroscopes.  It’s so much fun!

As always, we got our tree from the lot across from A&P (now called Metro).  I don’t know how the guy does it.  John motioned with his arms that he wanted a tree “so high and so wide.”  The fellow picked one from hundreds and it was perfect.  I mean perfect!

Since we already had our wine made and bottled at my hubby’s shop, Mountain Brew & Fine Wines (yup, a shameless plug), I called to pre-order the meats for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner at Hoffman’s Meat Packers in Stayner which is an almost legendary butcher even attracting people from Toronto and beyond who arrive with coolers.

After all the shopping, it was wonderful to spend an evening at the Village at Blue. My friend and I enjoyed a bucket of wings and a glass of wine while drinking in the view of the ski hills lit up at night.  The Village really is quite beautiful again at this time of year and it’s impossible not to feel some Christmas magic as you stroll through.

The snow seems to be non-stop this week and is piling up.  It looks so pretty blanketing the trees with Christmas lights shining through from below.  Lots of people are out snow-shoeing, skiing and boarding.  It’s cold yes but, it feels warm inside.  As in, I feel all aglow.  Yup, I love Christmas in Collingwood.
