When they first started building recreational condos in Collingwood back in the 80’s, I imagine the idea was to provide people with an alternative to a hotel room where they could get away, enjoy a few basics and have a place to escape for a week-end getaway. Can you remember back then? That was BEFORE Intrawest came to town. It was before the area became Ontario’s favourite vacation playground and it was BEFORE we all got a bit spoiled with more and more stuff.
Back then, you brought a suitcase, your skis or a swimsuit and grabbed your food and booze on the way up. That was about it. Fast forward 25 years and things have changed. Big time. Now, we want a separate area for the kids. We want a place for the electronics, we want a laundry room, we need storage for our stuff. No longer just for week-ends, condominiums have become full time homes. The older condos built in places like Cranberry Village, Rupert’s Landing and Lighthouse Point were all missing one thing and that is, a basement.
It’s is still hard these days to find a condominium with a basement, It’s even harder to find one that is under say, ten years of age and priced under $200,000. But we’ve found one for you.
I recently listed a terrific unit in the Cranberry area that is just 9 years old and features modern conveniences such as gas heat. Better still, it has a rare, fully finished walk-out basement that is finished and offers that extra space that makes all the difference. On top of that, it backs onto a lovely wooded area with a trail and stream plus offers a view of Blue Mountain in the distance. Check it out.
